Subject: 3 months in! Proud to serve.

Dear Friend—

It’s officially been three months as your new District 8 City Councilor! I understand how unconventional it is to have two elections in under six months, but after these three months, I’m convinced that working on behalf of District 8 is the best job out there. I am proud to be the City Councilor for 5 vibrant neighborhoods: the West End, Beacon Hill, Fenway–Kenmore, Back Bay and Mission Hill, and I would be honored to earn your support in Tuesday's election.

I wanted to share some of what we’ve been able to accomplish in these first few months:

  • We completed our first round of community engagement and constituent office hours throughout our neighborhoods to connect with the needs and aspirations of our neighborhood civic leaders because centered constituent services is at the heart of what our office does. Thank you to those who came out to meet with my office to share your perspectives and expertise! Meeting with community organizations is the best reminder of the strong partnership required between government and residents to accomplish all we hope to achieve! I have been so grateful to have the opportunity to meet with civic and neighborhood associations in all five neighborhoods. I recognize that many of the efforts of civic leaders across District 8 precede my time, and I am eager to continue this work with you!

As the District 8 Councilor, I am now proud to serve in formal roles in a number of groups:

  • Co-chair of the Fenway Park Concerts Neighborhood Committee (FPCNC)

  • Chair of the Mission Hill Problem Properties Task Force

  • Board member of the Fenway Community Center

  • Trustee of the Boston Common Maintenance Trust

  • Trustee of the Boston Groundwater Trust

I’m serving currently on the following committees on the Council:

  • Chair, Boston's COVID-19 Recovery Committee

  • Vice Chair, City Services and Innovation Technology

  • Vice Chair, Civil Rights and Immigrant Advancement

  • Vice Chair, PILOT Agreements, Institution, and Governmental Relations

I’ve prioritized meetings with leaders in government to create relationships in and outside of City Hall that will aid our work to advocate for District 8!

Hired our District 8 team, with some familiar faces!

Hitting the ground running, advocating for residents across District 8!

Some of my first actions include:

  • First hearing evaluated the Mental Health Resources Available to City employees

  • Resolution honoring Elliot Laffer for 49 years of Civic Leadership to the Back Bay, through Neighborhood Association of the Back Bay.

  • Resolution in support of New Edgerly Road pedestrianization

  • West End: Expedited $4.7M in mitigation funds for Blossom, Cambridge Streets

  • Co-sponsor of Stormwater management and flood hazard mitigation hearing

  • Patch repaving on the North Slope of Beacon Hill has begun

  • Issued letters in support of CPA projects in every neighborhood

  • Testified in support of HB. 4076 to expand the Beacon Hill Historic District

  • Resolution recognizing New Edgerly Road as John Bookston Plaza

  • Brick audit of Beacon Hill with repairs given to all but one location (22 in all!)

  • Hero square honoring Private First Class Nelson Edward Young in Mission Hill

I’m honored to have the opportunity to serve District 8 in this important role for our communities. This is the honor of a lifetime to serve the community that has given me so much! I hope you enjoy some of the highlights from the first 3 months in office! I’m eager to see you around District 8 or in my office at City Hall soon. You are always welcome!
